Artistic Approach to Urban Planning: A Fusion of Past, Present, and Future

The Shijiazhuang CBD Planning Exhibition Center, located in Hebei, China, is a window into the city's future planning. The design team, led by Cui Ying, took inspiration from Shijiazhuang's transformation from a train station to a key city in Northern China. The design's unique properties lie in its storyline of "past-present-future," creating a space that harmonizes with the city and its people while showcasing the fusion of the new and old.

The exhibition center is a multifunctional space serving various activities such as cultural exhibitions, work, meetings, leisure, and investment-related services. It is situated at the northeast side of the intersection of Zhongshan Road and Gongli Street, adjacent to the century-old Zhengtai Restaurant. This strategic location makes it an iconic building and gateway in the CBD.

The design's realization technology is a sight to behold. Dominated by a beige tone, the hall is expansive and bright. The steps echo the slanting grid ceiling, leading to a journey through time. Human figure sculptures looking ahead and blue balloon art installations at staggering heights symbolize the city's upward trajectory towards significant changes and development.

One of the design's challenges was integrating the design with the historical background without causing any destruction. The design team overcame this by going back to the location's historical story and presenting the new and old in the exhibition center after investigation, analysis, integration, and innovation.

The Shijiazhuang CBD Planning Exhibition Center was completed on June 30, 2020, and covers an area of 2,000 sqm. It was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021, a testament to its creative and professionally remarkable design that illustrates outstanding expertise and innovation.
